The Kansas Paralegal Association is hosting a CLE webinar through Zoom on Thursday, November 18, 2021 from 12pm to 1pm over updates over the new Kansas laws governing notaries that will take effect January 1, 2022. 

TOPIC OVERVIEW: Our guest speakers, Clay Barker, Deputy General Counsel, and Jennifer Cook, Head of Business Services, with the Kansas Secretary of State Office, will be speaking about the new laws governing Kansas notaries that will take effect January 1, 2022.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

Laws governing notaries in Kansas are being updated and take effect January 1, 2022. Clay and Jennifer will discuss the changes to the Kansas notary laws. 

SPEAKER BIO: 

Jennifer Cook is Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for the Business Services Division. She has served in various capacities in state government, including as Deputy Commissioner for the Office of the State Bank Commissioner. She previously spent more than a decade on the staff of U.S. Senator Pat Roberts as Deputy Legislative Director and Legislative Assistant for financial services and tax policy. She has a bachelor’s degree from Washburn and a master’s degree from KU. She lives in Topeka with her husband.

Clay Barker is the general counsel for the Secretary of State. He previously served as a special assistant in the Governor’s Office, as executive director of the Kansas Republican Party, as a partner at the Spencer Fane law firm, and as an infantry officer in the US Army. He graduated from West Point and KU Law School. He lives in Leawood with his wife, has five daughters and 4 grandchildren.
