The Kansas Paralegal Association is hosting a CLE webinar through Zoom on Thursday, November 19, 2020, 2020 from 12pm to 1pm over elder law and a paralegal's role.

TOPIC OVERVIEW: Our guest speakers, Maureen Lester and her paralegal, Tika Cole, with Van Osdol, will provide attendees an overview and best practices regarding elder law and a paralegal's role in regards to elder law.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: 

This informative CLE introduces paralegals to the practice of elder law. Presenters will provide an overview of the practice and focus on the paralegal’s support role for the attorney with helpful information that will improve any practices’ processes.

SPEAKER BIO:

Maureen Lester:

Maureen D. Lester is an attorney at Van Osdol, P.C. She practices primarily in the field of elder law at Van Osdol, P.C. Maureen assists clients with planning for the realities that arise with aging and the need for long-term care.

One such reality is the financial impact of long-term care, which often includes applying for Medicaid and other public benefits, such as those through Social Security and the Veterans Administration. For younger family members, Maureen provides estate planning and special needs planning for people of all ages.

After graduating from the Mizzou College of Business, Maureen worked for a short time in the insurance industry before attending law school. Upon graduating from UMKC in 2014 with her Juris Doctor, Maureen immediately began practicing in the field of elder law.

Maureen is an active member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) and serves on the Board of Directors for both the Kansas Chapter and Missouri Chapter of NAELA. She is also active in the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association and the Kansas City chapter of the Association of Women Lawyers.

Tika Cole:

Tika D. Cole is a Certified Paralegal with Van Osdol, P.C. She has more than 18 years of experience in the legal field. Prior to joining Van Osdol, Tika assisted attorneys with family law, regulatory and administrative matters, estate planning, Medicaid planning, probate, trust administration, and business matters. Her focus at Van Osdol is primarily in business, real estate transactions, and tax matters. Tika attended Rockhurst University where she received her paralegal certificate and she is a member of the Kansas City Paralegal Association.
