In 2006, NFPA Delegates passed a resolution to amend the Model Code of Ethics
and Professional Responsibility Guidelines to include that each paralegal should
aspire to contribute 24 hours of community service, in addition to 24 hours
to pro bono service.
Pro bono opportunities have been hard to come by in our area. Community service
needs on the other hand are everywhere. As they say, there is something for
everyone.
I encourage you to let the Pro Bono Committee know when you are aware of a pro
bono, or community need in your area. The committee will be glad to share the
information with members. Please keep track of your service hours, both pro
bono and community service so that we may report our time to NFPA yearly.
For your convenience, a reporting form is available for your use.
